The 200,000 TPY Ammonia Synthesis Plant, of which, Chengda owns the intellectual property right, lately passed the inspection & acceptance conducted by experts organized by Sichuan Economic Commission at Sichuan Meifeng Chemical Stock Co.Ltd. This plant adopts the process software package that was solely developed by Chengda Engineering Corporation. It uses natural gas as raw material and applies a variety of new processes. Key equipment including large-scale rotary equipment uses current advanced technologies of the world. All rotary equipment except ammonia compressor use reciprocating compressor and electric motor, which saves 30% investment compared with centrifugal compressor. Besides, adopting electrical-driving system takes full advantage of the abundant resources of electricity and water in the west region, lowering over 10% comprehensive energy consumption compared with steam driving system. Experts deem that this plant is advanced both in terms of energy consumption and technology. The building and operation of this plant has altered the history that large-scale ammonia synthesis plants completely rely on import.

On May 29, 2003 this project started with ground breaking. And its commissioning succeeded with one-time try. Apart from hydraulic turbine which is imported, all of the remaining equipment are home-made, with home-made rate at above 98%, making the plant featuring the highest home-made rate to date. After 72 hours of performance test at site, the capacity, quality as well as the main consumption figures all up to or superior to the design requirements. Up to September 10, this plant has been continuously and stably operating for 170 days, producing synthesis ammonia of 160,000 tons from the date of commissioning.
